Tinnitus Headache - Learn More About It

Posted by Barbara Thomson on September 15, 2010 at 10:13 AM

A tinnitus combined with a headache could just have sprung up from stress. This could be managed easily. What needs an immediate attention and thorough investigation is a tinnitus with a temporal headache. This temporal headache could come from the temporal bone which is located just above the ear in the skull. This is the organ responsible for hearing. To manage tinnitus headache, finding out the root cause would lead the person to the right treatment. There are many factors that could result to tinnitus headache.  Primary and secondary factors will be discussed further as you read on.

Stress, continuous sleeplessness or insomnia, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and lumber puncture are the common and primary factors that could lead into a tinnitus headache. First, we will discuss the primary factor which is stress. Stress comes from the temporal bone, a part of the skull. There is nothing much to do to treat this cause but to relax and take a deep breath. Drinking plenty of water would help this condition. And though medications may be needed to be administered, some drugs may give an unhealthy effect. Insomnia could be treated just by getting right quantity of sleep.

Another factor for having tinnitus headache would be a subarachnoid hemorrhage. This a fatal condition if it won’t be addressed to as early as possible. In this condition, there is a bleeding in the subarachnoid space in the brain. It may happen spontaneously or may be caused by a ruptured cerebral aneurysm out of a serious head injury. This is a rare case though as the ratio just showed a result of 1 out of 15,000 Americans. A collection of cerebrospinal fluid from the sac of the lumber, called as the lumber puncture could cause tinnitus headache too. This can only occur after 12 hours from the completed procedure.

Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) is a new study that tinnitus headache may have aroused from this condition. But this alone is the problem but this arises from another factor called Temporomandibular Join Disorder (TMJ). Some mechanisms in the jaw joint, which is located near the ear, may bring out an ear symptom. The muscles and tendrils get their nerve impulses from those that are joined to the jaw muscles, and sometimes, a bit of mistake in the analysis of the signals may cause alteration.

A continuous study of tinnitus and its relation to headache is still in progress. But one consideration of the causes of tinnitus headache would be the taking in of ototoxic medications. Antibiotics including Aminoglycosides, Vancomycin, and Erythromycin may cause a tinnitus headache. The chemotherapy agents and quinine may cause tinnitus and an uncomfortable temporal headache most especially to the elderly. The toxicity in these drugs may irritate the temporal part in the skull giving pain and discomfort in that area.
